Wells was developed by Tower Up Studios. The side scrolling action game takes place in a steampunk environment. You take control of George Wells, a man who wants revenge on Hyde. He doesn't care who or what gets in his way. You have to traverse ten chapters and fight your way through a number of opponents, because you are on the hunt for Hyde. A variety of weapons are available to you, each of which is unique in design and function. Big challenges are waiting for you. The game was released for XBox One and PC.
The game
Shooting and jumping work very well in Wells. Despite the problem-free controls, the game has some weaknesses. There is almost no plot. Missing game modes for entertainment and short campaigns mean that you have to cut corners. Control in the game is easy. Hidden weapons can be found during the game and add variety to the somewhat boring game. Sound and music adapt to the action in the game. Wells himself is kept easy in terms of difficulty.
the levels
In ten chapters you run, jump and shoot your way through hundreds of enemies. The control is not difficult. The game itself is short and can be played through quickly. This greatly reduces the replay value. More challenges await you in the lower levels. Strategic thinking and changing weapons in between is the order of the day. The boss fights can do with more innovation. You have to destroy steampunk inspired machines.
The variety of weapons
In the game you get four additional weapons. Wells starts with a gun. The pistol won't be of much use to you later. A machine gun will help you in the next levels. Another weapon fires cannonballs, which is essential for stronger opponents. With each shot, the enemy is pushed back a little, which gives you time. With some weapons you cross the levels faster. In the lower levels, changing weapons becomes more important, as some opponents can use the weak points with some weapons.
Aside from the shooter elements, the game doesn't look like much. Jump and run components dominate along with the shooter. Wells’s history and character do not last long. The reason for Wells' vengeance goals are not given. There is hardly any replay value in the game. You look in vain for collectibles.
The graphic
The steampunk graphics are nice and the graphics are 3D oriented. The game doesn't look bad. The peculiarities of the representation make it difficult to distinguish between objects.
