Warhammer 40.000 is a strategy-dungeon mix. You are a member of the Adeptus Mechanicus. The cult takes care of the administration of knowledge and the construction of the weapons of the empire. You edit you tech priests so that they become a mixture of man and machine. You come to the planet Silva Tenebris. After an explusion, you awaken a Necrno army of numb androids. Your goal is to track down the six lords of the Necros and prevent them from being awakened before they set their legions on the humans.
The game is divided into campaigns consisting of several missions. Up to six cybernetic war monks belong to each team. You send them to burial chambers. Their insides will not be revealed until your troops enter the tomb.
The battlefields in the game are graphically excellent. The characters are very well animated and can be equipped with melee and ranged weapons as well as other skills and buffs. The mission objectives do not adapt properly to the course of the story. Mainly you scan and destroy terminals, kill the enemies or disappear.
There is an action point system in Wahrammer 40.000 Mechanicus. There are cognition points that you need for every action, depending on the weapon and skill. You collect the points from Necron energy stores and from defeated opponents. So you have to adapt your tactics accordingly, because you need more points for stronger weapons.
The points are easier to collect later than at the beginning. At the beginning you have to pay more attention to your moves. The opponents could be smarter. After each mission, you can upgrade your tech priests. Depending on the level, you choose a skill or a cybernetic enhancement. Six skill trees are available.
Conclusion
Warhammer 40.000: Mechanicus is a successful game that calls for tactics. The setting creates the right atmosphere and the Wahrammer universe is fascinating. Although there is a lack of balancing in some places, the atmosphere, optics and story as well as the replayability make the game definitely worthwhile.
