In Turmoil you go on a treasure hunt for oil. It doesn't always have to be action, "Turmoil" shows that it is a quiet game for in between, in complete contrast to the German translation of "Tumult" of its name.
This is a simulation and strategy game with a small amount of economic simulation.
Once the game has started, you can choose between a new campaign or a single game. To get to know each other, it is advisable to take the single game. There you have to choose in another selection window, what you want to prospect or drill for:
- Oil,
- oil + diamonds,
- Oil + diamonds + natural gas
At the same time, the level of difficulty also increases, as rocks lie in the ground from the 2nd level onwards. As a beginner, it is advisable to only drill for oil to get to know the game.
There is no explanation of how the game works. In the single game mode, however, the selection bar at the top of the screen gives you some help, then you understand the process very quickly. In addition, the individual symbols are explained with a short text as soon as you point them with the mouse pointer.
Here is the short run: First you have to look for an oil well, for this are the 3 symbols on the left half of the bar. Dowsers and / or scanners are useful here in order not to lose too much of the initial capital. But watch out, the larger the scanner radius, the more expensive it gets. When this is the desired size, you have to press the left mouse button to reveal the scanned area. The symbols on the right half of the bar are used for oil production. Once the oil production tower is up and connected to an underground spring, horse-drawn carts should soon be purchased for transport, because once the oil has overflowed, there will be consistently a hefty fine for pollution.
The oil can now be sold to the left or the right oil company, depending on the price range. This is where the small part of the economic simulation comes into play.
You always have to keep an eye on which company pays the most money for the oil. For times when both sides give little money, you can build an oil tank and fill it up to sell the oil at high prices in good times.
Besides, you have to look for further oil wells after a certain time, if the previous one threatens to dry out. In the end, at the end of a level, you have hopefully uncovered all the sources in the ground.
A level lasts a year, of course in rapid succession. You can see its course at the top left in the bar. At the end of a drilling season, there is an overview of income and expenses, profit and other interesting information.
Graphics: 2D looks good and goes very well with the game, nothing more is necessary.
Music: Leisurely calm country music that has a relaxing effect and rounds off the game.
And finally ... "Turmoil" is, as already written, a pleasant and interesting game for in between. It is definitely recommended for lovers of strategy games. With its beautiful graphics and music and the design, which was developed for the heyday of the oil search in the 19th century, it is always fun.
And it offers the possibility to play every single game again and again, as each one has an individual 7-digit number that you only have to enter in the selection window.
