The Story of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
When Maria Flores goes missing and local law enforcement delays her search, her younger sister Ana teams up with some of Maria's college friends to investigate. They follow the last known traces of Maria. They hope to find something that can help advance the investigation.
The Slaughter family
What they don't know is that Maria and the Slaughter family have crossed paths. She's not just missing, she's dead. Ana and her friends ask the wrong person the right questions and run into the chef at a gas station. They get nothing out and announce that they are staying in the area for a few days. The man informs you that it will be dark soon and the area can be unpredictable at night. He recommends that they set up camp behind the mesquit thicket and continue their search at sunrise. They follow his advice and end up having a nightmare.
The gameplay of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Stealth plays an important role in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. There is a distinct "cat and mouse" feel to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Moments of tension end abruptly with a clash of action, followed by a return to the relative safety of being on the brink of another clash after line of sight is broken, if the victim is smart enough. You struggle to breathe heavily in a hideout while a family member lurks in the next room, undoing everything you did to escape.
secrets
Creating and releasing suspense is a fairly common concept in horror. In The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, we know that against all odds, our victims find themselves in a situation with little to no resources and seemingly all but finished. Desperation is both a keyword and an overall tone of play, and as such, combat is not only unrealistic, but minimal and frantic. So what fills the gameplay between your capture and escape or death? stealth.
The stealth mechanics
The fight between spider and fly
The fight between the spider and the fly, the cat and the mouse takes place in every match of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. He will dominate the gameplay of the game and present many challenges to the players.
An asymmetric multiplayer
A team fights against seemingly superior human opponents who do it best when working together. Asymmetric horror games, commonly referred to as the "1 vs. many" structure for asymmetric gameplay, work very well with this structure. The horror movies we all know and love often use the exact same formula. The local teenagers all chat together and discover the horror and what it takes to defeat him, even if only one teenager remains when the credits roll. The smaller the group of protagonists becomes, the clearer the method of defeating the monster becomes.
A paved way
Regarding video games, when the number of campers or survivors or victims dwindles, the game increases towards the fulfillment of the set goals. The killer might have a 1:1 advantage, but all the fallen players along the way helped level this playing field. Every design decision in the game is made with the franchise in mind. Simply put, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is more than just leatherface, and the asymmetrical structure should reflect that.
The sound in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Surrounded by everything from a variety of vintage instruments to broken toys, Wayne Bell created some of the most iconic and abstract sounds ever filmed. These sounds played like a mess when combined with a score he and Tobe Hooper created in a way that was almost nothing heard before. The sound is inspired by Musique Concrète and the creation of music with sound objects. Rather than relying solely on traditional instruments, Bell handcrafted the sound design for one of the most shocking American horror films of all time, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Sounds
We all know those sounds: metal on metal and rust and sparks, the thud of organic material hitting a hard surface with brute force, the sound of the hot Texas sun in August creating what can only be described as a reverberating wave can. The intersection of sound effects and score where noise becomes music must be found. Wes Keltner, CEO and President of Gun Interactive, only knew of one device that could produce all of these hauntingly powerful sounds and more, an instrument worthy of updating the sound design of this franchise and its history.
Wes Keltner immersed himself in mastery of the Apprehension Engine. He explored every single knock the box could make, as well as every variation and seemingly endless loop of changes to the same knock and the sounds it made. He worked with that Sound team leader at Sumo Digital, Ross Tregenza, created a game soundscape that lives up to the original source material while creating an identity all of its own. With this he shaped the sound design of the game score of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Authenticity in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Authenticity can mean many things in the gaming industry. The "Hero Assets" in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre must be accurate to convey a sense of authenticity. What types of flowers grow along Quick Hill Road in Texas in summer? That level of authenticity is what the studio strives for, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre provided the studio with many opportunities to explore, research, and explore more. Locations like the family home and gas station, items like Leatherface's mask and chainsaw are all included. These hero assets have all come under scrutiny to an almost absurd degree. But at the same time, it includes examining the textures of the sun-drenched asphalt, the colors and tones of a Texas sunset… and even the sunrise. To achieve this, they traveled to Texas to photograph the local flora and fauna and all remaining elements from the original film. They also studied each image and shot hoping to capture the elements they could no longer access.+
Texas
Because Texas is a unique place and Texas Summer is a unique time of year in a unique place, it was important to focus not just on the physical details, but on small elements that make the whole. The 1974 film could only take place in Texas. The orange sunsets and sunrises and the heat waves echoing off the street are the elements you can feel just by looking at them. Separated from the whole, each individual element does not have the same effect on your senses as all of them together. For authenticity, every last bit of the whole Texas feeling has to be conveyed through the screen. Authenticity includes everything from photogrammetry to chainsaw research, from a clock hanging from a tree to a cow called "The Captain".
The characters in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Five characters are the potential victims in the game..
Julia
Julie is a native of Southern California. Sand, surfing and a sports lifestyle define her life. But whether her life thus far has prepared her for the stress and strain of the experience, which calls for a whole different kind of toughness remains to be seen. Will their physical abilities be enough to carry them through an absolute nightmare second to none?
Leland
Though Leland fought in high school, college life is a far cry from high school and its wrestling glory days. Still, he's the strongest of the group, but what he has in strength he lacks elsewhere. A native Texan and a tough guy but still not a one on one match against the likes of the Slaughter Family and as such his skills benefit from working as a team with his peers.
Ana
And then there is Ana. Ana is highly motivated and a natural leader. After losing her father, she and Maria help take care of their mother while trying to go their own way. Now that Maria is missing, Ana is done sitting idly by while the police stumble by. Determination and sheer willpower are her strongest traits, and she will need every ounce of her resilience to persevere.
Sonny
Sonny may have a slightly smaller physique, but he more than makes up for it with his intellect. The best student in the group is not only literally smart, he is also quick on his feet and quick in his decisions. Sharp and intuitive, exceptionally situational, Sonny must rely on his intelligence if he is to survive, and his friends would be just as wise to take advantage of his abilities.
Connie
Connie comes from a farm where she has never shied away from the work involved. While Connie isn't exactly what you'd expect from a tomboy, she enjoys being the kind of person who will surprise you with her skills. She is smart, intelligent and resourceful. A born tinkerer, her skills are more of a surgical nature.
