Haemimont Games sends you to Mars to colonize the red planet. A missing tutorial is noticeable. Only a small hint system supports you in your game. You choose your landing area on Mars, a sponsor and start a story campaign.
The difficulty of Surviving Mars depends on the sponsor's funds. He also gives certain bonuses, such as technology. You choose your location and you are placed on a map of 10 × 10 sectors. The first sector has already been explored. In this you land with your rocket.
The rocket is your base station from which you send the drones. On Mars, for example, you make concrete from regolith and expand your infrastructure. That lures colonists to Mars. They need electricity, water and oxygen. Your drones set up everything you need. Surviving Mars shows your supplies with a level indicator. You get resources such as concrete or precious metals from resource fields. In order for people to settle on Mars, you need a glass dome, apartments and service buildings.
You have to pay attention to the needs and moral values of the colonists. These can be positive or negative and are sometimes age-dependent. If their needs are not met, people's morale falls. Use the technology tree to research improvements and new buildings.
Conclusion
As long as you don't have any colonists as a player, Surviving Mars is an interesting building game. However, the Martians add significantly to the complexity of the game. The demands are increasing and so Surviving Mars is a challenging, very good development game that lets the player search for solutions to various problems. There is one or the other UI problem, but still this game is worthwhile for construction fans.
