Our preview of Spellforce - The Order of Dawn Over 80 hours of real-time strategy and role play await you in a colorful, breathtaking fantasy world. Spellforce was created by the German developer Phenomic Game Development. Monumental real-time strategy is mixed with role-playing elements. There is also a beautiful 3D graphic.
Spellforce - The Order of Dawn
The game was released on November 23, 2003 for the PC. Jowood acted as the publisher of the game. Spellforce - The Order of Dawn formed the prelude to the following two extensive expansions and Spellforce 2: Shadow of Wars, which hit stores in 2006. Spellforce 2017 followed in 3.
the story
In the prehistory, Spellforce tells of the convocation, a huge catastrophe that was triggered by archmages and turned the world of Fiara into an island landscape. You are summoned as a rune warrior who is supposed to bring the world back on track.
The character and his skills
At the beginning you can assemble your hero according to your ideas and distribute him a given number of skill points as you wish. While strength affects melee damage, wisdom increases magic ability. Charisma influences the prices you pay at the retailer. A total of 22 specialist areas are available to you, such as B. archer, fire magic or necromancer.
The perspective
You can play the game from the 3rd person perspective from above or from the pursuer's perspective. The view from above is particularly suitable for urban planning.

The campaign
21 huge, beautiful islands await you. The islands are connected by several portals. 22 main missions and 28 side missions await you, in which you alternately take command of humans, elves, dwarves, trolls and dark elves take over. On each island you will find settlements, with main and side quests to complete. You switch between the goals of defeating the enemy, freeing allies or defending your own base. The side missions are more varied and have many role-playing elements. You must achieve victory over the menacing giant with poisoned beef or collect ingredients to tailor a robe or forge a sword. However, you can only complete the side missions between the main missions. If you leave the map, you will release the rune monuments again and your base will be destroyed.
For the rune!
You not only have an avatar at your disposal, but also collect runes from various heroes, which you can bring to life on runic monuments. Up to 5 heroes support you in the fight. Like your avatar, you can equip your heroes with weapons and armor. However, they do not win levels.

Gather experience!
You get experience for enemies you kill and missions you complete. However, this is only limited to your avatar and does not apply to other heroes. If you reach a new level, you can learn new skills or expand the existing ones. With every level up you can increase a character's stats and invest two skill points in your skills.
The runic monuments
In addition to the runic monuments for heroes, you also need monuments for unit production. These differ depending on the available races. Avatars and soldiers can be summoned there. You use workers to mine raw materials that you can use to build buildings and produce units. For each unit and building you need production plans, which you collect during the game. Peoples differ in their raw material needs. While trolls work with stone, they mine dwarves with the mine for iron and the elves use nature's wood.
Unit limit
The units in Spellforce are limited. With the food you collect, you can increase your unit limit up to 80 soldiers. Throughout the game, the motto is: budget with scarce resources. The AI opponents do not have this limitation and consistently produce attackers who can be stopped with fire towers or frostbearers, for example. That is why it is important to build a particularly large number of defensive towers in each round.
The units
Each people has its own special units, each with their own weaknesses. Elven people's windshields use ice arrows, orc drummers especially motivate the units and the change of day and night influences the soldiers. The dark elves' necromancers summon fallen enemies as skeletons at night. Resource-intensive, but strong in battle, are the titans that every people can call in the main house. The trolls send the cyclops into battle, the orcs a fire devil, the humans a griffin rider, the elves the tree guardian and the dark elves the spider brood.

Click & Fight
The titans, heroes and troops can be sent into battle using a simple click & fight system. If you click on an enemy, you will see all possible interactions, from the classic attack with the sword to the ice magic.
Objects
Most fallen opponents leave items behind that can be sold at the nearest dealer or used by yourself. Easily recognizable, the fallen opponents glitter golden. Unfortunately, the items cannot be stacked.
The graphic
Spellforce offers a wonderful fantasy world, with elven settlements, detailed animated beings such as dragons and magic. Graphically, the game leaves little to be desired.

The soundtrack
The music is played by an orchestra and changes depending on the game situation. Professional voice actors were called in for the dubbing. There is no dialogue that is not set to music.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer part has to disappoint. Your own avatar is left out in the multi-player and level increases with the ready-made avatars are not possible.
Conclusion
RPG fans must have played Spellforce. Strategy fans also get their money's worth. The gameplay is motivating and the many different missions add variety to the story. The gameplay is simple. Strategy is mostly limited to building defensive towers and managing raw materials. Graphically, the game is motley and is a lot of fun due to the richness of detail.
