A war between gods has broken out. To resolve their disputes, they go to the battlefield. All sorts of divine figures and weapons promise lots of free-to-play fun.
SMITE
The game SMITE was developed by Hi-Rez Studios for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PS4 and Xbox One.
The game
In SMITE you take on the role of a god. You play from a third person perspective. The game is a free-2-play game. 2-10 players go to the battlefield in two teams. The goal is to destroy the titans of the enemy camp. However, the Titan is well guarded. Its guardians are towers and phoenixes, as well as various servants. Different game modes are available.
Gods need power
If you defeat an opponent you will receive Godl and experience. So you can power up your gods and provide them with better equipment. You get the equipment in the base of your own titan. If you are defeated you respawn in your own base. The respawn time can vary from a few seconds to several minutes. A round can take up to 40 minutes.
The tutorial
SMITE provides a well explanatory tutorial by learning the basics of the game. Each game mode is introduced by a short video that explains the map and its special features. If you choose your character and want to equip it, you can use an automatic shopping function. This comes into effect when you are in the base with the necessary gold.
The perspective
With the camera you can always find yourself behind your God. This is simply controlled on the PC using the WASD combination. The change of perspective gives the game its own dynamic. You have to aim well with your skills and plan the direction of the opponent's course.
The training mode
The training mode is particularly good for training with two friends. So you can get a feel for your characters. PvP mode is a whole different story.
The choice of gods
At the beginning you can choose between 9 gods. A total of 57 are available, of which you will receive 5 automaticsh. Another four rotate and change regularly after a few weeks. If you have finished a round, you will receive experience points and favor. With the favor you can acquire new gods and skills. The experience points increase your player level. Each new level brings the 500 additional points of favor. For a new god, you have to budget about 5500 favors. For real money you can of course buy all gods. If you have previously paid for a godly favor, you will get this reimbursed afterwards.
The SMITE Leagues
If you reach level 30, you can take part in rated games. You also have the opportunity to qualify for the SMITE leagues. Until then, the matches remain unrated.
The characters
There are a lot of characters in SMITE. Below you will find elves, orcs and other deities from different cultures. So far Hindu, Maya, Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese, Romans and Nordic deities are represented. There are a total of 57 gods and legendary figures. The characters are based on the mythical traditions. Each god has different abilities that correspond to his characteristics. The gods can be distinguished from one another very well.
Coordination in battle
To get ahead in the game, it is better to consult with your teammates. You can issue acoustic instructions via the quick selection menu. To do this, I press key combinations. For example, VA1 stands for “Attack the left path!”, While “VRR” stands for “Immediate retreat!”.
Spoilsport
If other players log out in the middle of a round or if afk logs in, this can ruin the atmosphere of the game. There is a “benevolence value” for every account. At the beginning of the game this is 100%. If you disappear from a round, other players can report you with a reason and your benevolence value drops. You can only participate in rated games with a rating of over 50%. Also, a percentage lower than 100% means less favor per match. Additional penalties are temporary bans or blocking access to the game. If you leave a game early, you are a deserter.
SMITE weaknesses
Unfortunately, SMITE only has an English voice output so far. The German translation can be dispensed with. Matchmaking appears arbitrary, with no special system. This means that characters with different levels can appear in a match.
A "small" bug
A sad experience that I had while playing SMITE was unfortunately a bug that already overtook me in the tutorial. In the first introductory tutorial, the enemy god was missing for some inexplicable reason. Everything went well until the quest "Kill 2 enemy gods". But then only the helpers clashed and nothing more happened. Sometimes I didn't even get to the menu or the item shop. That was pretty strange. In the end, I gave up my introductory favor in this tutorial and used a keyboard shortcut (no, I don't know which one, initiated defeat). After that, I restarted the game because it didn't close normally. From then on I was able to get into the normal menu and play my first "real" tutorial, but that wasn't the basic tutorial. But everything went as planned here. If this is in bloom, please don't be discouraged. I had a lot of fun in this tutorial and decided to continue playing SMITE for now.
Conclusion
The game's graphics are excellent. The attention to detail is a huge plus in the game. The game gains momentum through the third-person perspective. The gameplay is fast and free-to-play. However, you have to be prepared for one or the other black sheep in the community. Otherwise, SMITE is a game with a lot of addicting potential.
