The game Rescue on Fractalus! was created through a collaboration between Atari and LucasArts. The classic game is humanity versus aliens.
Rescue on Fractalus!
Humanity is at war with an alien race called "Jaggies". On the planetary fracture Fractalus, the battle is over and many crashed ceramic warships are there. A transport ship is sent from Earth on a rescue mission. You control a newly developed Valkryrie fighter with which you should rescue the pilots who are on the planet. The problem with this is that the planet's surface is controlled by the jaggies. So you have to fight your way to the pilots.
The game
You take off from the mothership and go from there to the planet, where you try to save the pilots. You fly through mountains and valleys and have to defend yourself against lasers, UFOs and missiles. You also have to pay attention to your fuel consumption with the radar you can determine the pilots who have crashed. During the flight you have to make sure that the lasers don't catch you from the mountain walls. If you reach the stranded pilot, you land with him, collect him and let him board. But beware! In later levels, a jaggie is used instead of a pilot. Once you've found all the pilots in a sector or you're running out of fuel, you return to orbit on the mothership. From there it goes straight back to the next level.
Graphics and sound
The graphics were very well presented for the time. The planet's surface is displayed in three dimensions. The edges of mountain ridges are shown as lines and the view can be reduced by fog. Charlie Kellner put the music and sound together. The title music is pompous and some noises are reminiscent of Star Wars.
Conclusion
For its time, the game is very well designed and has the right atmosphere. There is excitement and excitement. The graphics correspond to their time and the sound underlines the game atmosphere. Retro fans can definitely take a look.
