Praetorians comes from the developers of the Commandos games. You go to battle against Teutons, Gauls and barbarians in ancient times. Julius Caesar names you leader of the campaign. 59 BC You can begin to occupy Gaul. 24 missions await you in the game. Your opponents are the Teutons, Nervians, British, Egyptians and Caesar's archenemy Pompey. The storyline is completely fictional.
The game presents different types of troops for your battle. The legionaries form historically correct to the turtle in front of the enemy hail of arrows. The gladiators fight for you and the Praetorian Guard is particularly useful in combat.
You lead the soldiers into battle by regiment. If the Romans are active in combat, there is not much you can do as a commander. With falconers and wolf scouts you explore the terrain and scout out the enemy. You use archers in ranged combat and the legionnaires follow suit.
The most important values in the game include attack, defense, hit points and stamina. Healers and Centurions make sense for your troops, but they only heal troops within their radius. If your troops are too decimated, you can merge them into one.
Siege battles also await you in Praetorians. You defend a fortress against overwhelming odds, attack yourself and storm the palisades with ladders and towers. You need catapults and ballistae for the siege. You don't build bases, but conquer the villages in the area to secure supplies.
Conclusion
Praetorians is an excellent game for fans of strategy and real-time games. The game demands a lot and takes you back to ancient Roman times. Even if it's a fictional campaign, it is recommended for strategy fans.
