Mega Man X8 is a new sequel to the successful series that Capcom is launching on the classic principle. Jump, shoot, win!
Megaman X8
In Japan, Mega Man X8 appeared under the title Rockman X8 (Rockman X8). Capcom developed and released it in Japan for the PS2 and PC. The game is the eighth and most recent installment in the Mega Man X series. The game was released on December 7, 2004 in North America.
Well-known game principle
The gameplay has not changed much with Mega Man X8. You run with your hero through levels, shoot down opponents and in the end you fight against the upper boss, who leaves you a helpful new weapon. The story is not outstanding and in between anime films tell the story on. The tutorial is the first mission that you have to complete.
The protagonists
You go into battle with a total of three heroes, of which you are always on the road with two. X, the well-known blue Mega Man, Axl and Zero give their opponents sour. You can switch between your two characters at any time. While Zero fights with a lightsaber, X shoots around with the famous blaster. Axl can distribute continuous fire and linger longer in the air. Depending on which protagonist you choose at the beginning, the level of difficulty is determined.
The perspective
The perspective is the classic scrolling 3D perspective, on 2D paths. That's why it rotates background objects in different directions. What is missing is a change of perspective. You can choose your levels as needed. After the level is over, you can save and power up with upgrades. There are items in the levels that you can use to purchase new weapons, extras and attack maneuvers in the control center.
The level of difficulty
The level of difficulty also sticks to its roots. If you play Mega Man 8, you have to be frustration-resistant, as the game is a bit more difficult again. Unfortunately, there is a little lack of motivation in this part to play the levels again. Not much stands out linguistically and acoustically. The music is a bit guitar heavy.
Conclusion
Mega Man X8 is definitely going in the right direction again and stands out positively from Mega Man X7. The game is not great and there is one or the other innovation and some levels bring one or the other surprise with them. As usual, the level of difficulty drives you to despair. The game should definitely be played using a gamepad. Definitely recommended for Mega Man fans.
