The intro
A hand-drawn intro introduces the story. However, there are no videos waiting for you, but still images of Mega Man and Zero. Then you come to the main menu, where you can set the level of difficulty, key assignment and game speed. From there you can load older scores or switch to training mode.
the story
In Mega Man X5 you have to destroy the Eurasia space colony. This is on a collision course with the earth. A virus forces everyone who lives on it to do things against their will.
The game principle
In order for the colony to be destroyed, you have to collect the parts of a huge laser cannon. Then you need the individual parts of a shuttle. To win the parts you have to play eight levels and defeat the bosses. But the opponents are also beings influenced by the "Sigma" virus.
the levels
The levels differ little from previous Mega Man games. You jump over abysses and on platforms through different landscapes and defeat different opponents. You pass through a jungle, a laboratory, a lava cave and a castle in the air.
The characters
There are two characters to choose from. Mega Man alone offers five game variants for his characters, in different armor, with different skills and properties. With the 'Gaea' armor he is better protected from spikes, while the 'Falcon' armor makes jumping easier. The other character is Zero, who as a character raises the level of difficulty from the ground up. He only gets improved armor towards the end of the game. Similar to the earlier part, defeated bosses leave behind weapons that Mega Man or Zero can use against other bosses in order to exploit their weaknesses.
Graphics and sound
The animations are graphically presented in loving detail. The levels are colorful and varied. In terms of graphics, the game is more impressive than the previous Mega Man games. Musically and in terms of the sounds, there is a good atmosphere. Unfortunately, there are no catchy tunes. In addition, there was no speech output.
Conclusion
Mega Man X5 is based on the classic Mega Man games, but has an easier level of difficulty. The graphics are impressive and the gameplay is very sophisticated. The sound is not great. The story is not a high-flyer. Still, Mega Man X 5 is a rewarding, entertaining jump and run game for the Playstation.
