The fourth part of the futuristic Mega Man X4 was developed by Capcom for the Playstation. The fight against the Mavericks is still going on.
Megaman X4
Capcom developed the fourth part of the Mega Man series. The Japanese title was released as Rockman X3 (Rockman X3). It was the second Mega Man game for the Sega Saturn and PlayStation.
The plot
Mega Man X and Zero go back to battle against the Mavericks. To combat them, the Repliforce, a reploid army, is created. Dr. Half a year later, Cain classifies this as unsuccessful and dangerous. After the Sky Lagoon fell on the city and killed countless people, the Repliforce is suspected. The Repliforce declares itself independent and wants to found its own reploid state. This declares the Repliforce to be Mavericks and declares war on them.
The gameplay
Not much has changed in the game's gameplay. Via different platforms you get into different machine worlds in which you have to fight against the opposing robots. The bosses are classically 8 pieces, which you can choose in any order. Each level is divided into two parts. If you lose your life after reaching the first half of the level, you can start in the middle of the level the next time.
Mega Mans weapons
The classic weapon of the Mega Man X is the X-Buster, a plasma cannon. If you defeat a boss, you will receive his special weapon and can use it against other bosses. With special items you can recharge these weapons when their energy is used up. In this part, too, the principle is based on the rock-paper-scissors principle. Each boss has a special weapon that takes advantage of another boss' weakness.
Upgrade capsules
The upgrade capsules improve Mega Man's abilities in combat. In addition, heart tanks can be found in the individual levels, which permanently increase life energy.
Character choice
The game can be played with X or Zero. The levels and their opponents do not differ. In contrast to Mega Man, Zero does not have a Bosster, but a lightsaber. This makes him a stronger hand-to-hand fighter. He does not receive any special weapons or upgrades, but learns new techniques when he has defeated a boss. Depending on the choice of character, the action of the game is different. There is no longer a password system in Mega Man X4. The game's memory function facilitates this.
Anime
The plot is chosen in anime videos. The synchronization could have been better. Compared to the previous parts, you get more story in Mega Man X4. Opponents have their own reasons for going to war against humanity. The prehistory of Zero becomes interesting, and more is told about it.
Brevity is the soul of wit
As interesting as the story is, unfortunately it is also shorter. The scope of the game is not very large. Although Mega Man X4 encourages you to play several times with X and Zero due to the differences in action, it could have been longer.
Conclusion
Mega Man X follows on from the success of its predecessor. It also offers more story. The gameplay hasn't changed. Unfortunately, the game is a bit short in proportion.
