Mega Man X – Command Mission as a role-playing game? The developers of Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter join the game!
Mega Man X: Command Mission
The game Rockman X Command Mission (ロ ッ ク マ ン X コ マ ン ド ミ ッ シ ョ ン) was released in Japan on July 29, 2004. Capcom developed and published the spin-off of the Mega Man X series for the PS2 and Nintendo GameCube. It was released in North America on September 21, 2004 and in Europe on November 19, 2004.
The riot
Mega Man X struggles through the new adventure together with Zero and Shadow. Epsilon has instigated a riot in Giga-City that the three of them are supposed to investigate. They are separated and Shadow changes to the side of the rebels. Zero and X don't let Epsilon get them down and go into battle.
The defeat
The two heroes are defeated in battle. X is seriously injured and flees from the battlefield. He comes back to himself in the beleaguered building in Giga-City. From there, X goes into battle against the Reploids. He frees the commanders that Epsilon holds captive and fights to end the rebellion.
New comrades-in-arms
The bounty hunter Spider, battle giant Massimo, Debin Marino and the nurse Cinnamon support Mega Man in battle. Then there is the shapeshifter Axl and the believed dead Zero. Seven characters have different characteristics and skills. On the way you will find new staff who will enrich your base and support you.
The base camp
Between missions you can rest, have fun and find new equipment. You pull collectible figures from machines and decrypt passwords so that you can revisit areas that have already been liberated and find new extras. De will set out on your own for this, or you can send a search party made up of reprogrammed enemy reploids. These track down unreachable objects and extras.
Collecting mania
A lot is collected in Command Misson. There is plenty of bonus material to discover. Artworks, outfits, collectible figures, songs for the jukebox, film sequences for the video player or posters for the trophy hall are hidden in the levels and wait to be unlocked. Achievements can be assessed in the trophy room. There is a database for an overview. Rewards are available for defeating a certain number of enemies, having a certain number of conversations, or breaking the damage limit.
Entertaining but short
The story consists of ten chapters. The main plot is played out after 20 hours. The level design is not innovative. It goes through corridors, through a few puzzles and games of skill and at the end against the big boss.
Turn-based battles
In between, turn-based random battles await you. Graphically, the fights are very well staged. Main and secondary weapons, games of skill and games of chance, as well as special attacks and metamorphoses, as well as group-specific special attacks entertainment. It is important not to lose sight of the sequence, elementary affiliation and energy reserves. The level of difficulty in this Mega Man game is not set very high and is therefore suitable for beginners. The boss fights, on the other hand, demand a little more.
Special attacks
Each character has special attacks. Complex attacks make the opponents to create. Once you have collected enough energy for your weapons, you can carry out powerful special attacks against your opponents. Sometimes you have to learn special key sequences for this. You are particularly strong in hyper mode. In a fight you can e.g. B. let cinnamon heal or refill with items. However, the resources are limited. When leveling up, the life energy increases to 100% again. Fighters can be changed.
Elements
The equipment binds you to the respective elements. If the wrong element is used, the opponent suffers no damage or is healed. The score is saved at special terminals. The opponents belong to certain element classes. So you have strengths and weaknesses. If in doubt, you can flee.
Conclusion
Mega Man's first role-play appearance is impressive. The 10 chapters are a bit short and monotonous. The random battles are a bit out of date. The audiovisual presentation is not outstanding. The turn-based fights are well done and tactical thinking is required. Collectors get their money's worth with the game.
