John Elways Quarterback, also known as the John Elways Quarterback Challenge and John Elways Team Quarterback, is a 1987 soccer video game.
Tradewest developed quarterback as an arcade game. In 1988, John Elway agreed to endorse it, and the company renamed the game John Elway's Quarterback. Tradewest released a version for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Melbourne House for various home computers [2] such as Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, IBM PC, Apple II and Apple IIGS. The arcade game is an upright game with two players. The controls are different for both the left and right sides (attack and defense). There is a spring-loaded joystick that the player can use to angle and let go depending on the throw (for the quarterback) or kick angle. If ownership changes, players will switch sides of the console and play will continue. In both cases, players can choose from a game book with formations and games. On the offensive, the player has the option of choosing the "normal game", which, if done correctly, can hardly be stopped by the defense. To select the "normal game", the player must mark the game in the game selection menu and wait until the timer for the game selection menu has expired. In "normal play" the quarterback has to pass the ball quickly in order not to be released, as the line of scrimmage in this formation collapses unusually quickly. As soon as the ball is released, the wide receivers run towards the ball. If the ball is caught, the receiver can run at extremely high speeds. The receiver will then be almost impossible for the defense to catch and attack.
