Quantum of Solace is the James Bond game released by Activision in 2008. The first person shooter offers a lot of action, nice Bond girls and lots of agent adventures.
A consolation of comfort
The original title of the game is Quantum of Solace. The game is Activision's first after Electronic Arts gave up the franchise rights. The game combines the movie Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace into one game. You always have some levels in Quantum of Solace and regular flashbacks in Casino Royal. The game jumps back and forth between scenes in the individual films. The PS2 version is USK-16. In contrast, the PS3 version is rated USK-18.
The attacking army
The scenes from the films are recognizable, but have been peppered with many additional opponents. Unfortunately, this reduces the game's credibility. The story could have been told better. You get mission briefings, the occasional one-on-one missions, but no common thread of history. Every now and then you will find loose ends of a red thread, the beginning of which you are looking for.
The briefings
During the briefing, it is noticeable that this is considerably quieter than the rest of the game. Unfortunately, that is noticeable negatively. The German dubbing voices, except for Daniel Craigs, don't seem very motivated. The positive aspect is that many original voice actors from the films were brought in for the dubbing.
The missions
Unfortunately, the missions lack innovation significantly. The main aim is to defeat oncoming opponents. A good arsenal of weapons is available to you for this. It is particularly important to use cover for later missions. With a target lock, you can target opponents. The AI is intelligent enough to dismantle objects behind which you are hiding. In addition, you can hack into cameras during the missions, for example, in order to be able to observe the surroundings better.
The weapons
You can use pistols, machine guns, grenades or sniper rifles as weapons. You can carry a maximum of three weapons at the same time. If you prefer hand-to-hand combat, you can also take opponents out of circulation in this way. Silently turning off opponents has its advantages. The AI also uses its cover in combat, changes its positions or calls for reinforcements if it notices that something is wrong.
Sneak actions
In the game, you don't be brutal with firearms all the time. You sneak through the rooms, pick door locks and explore the area. If you see or see glowing blue cell phones ringing, you have the opportunity to get good tips. You can read opponents' text messages or view photos that contain useful hints. The game is saved automatically.
The multiplayer
The multiplayer mode presents itself in nine variations. Up to twelve players can take part. This includes, for example, the "Territory Control" mode, which aims to have two teams collect and secure objects.
Graphics and sound
The level design would have given more. Every now and then it stutters a bit when the frame rate drops too much. This can especially happen with the cutscenes. Daniel Craig is very easy to recognize, which is not always the case with the other characters. The game speed is fast and good. If you have a PS3 or a Wii console, you have the option of choosing between the English original language and German synchronization.
The Collector's Edition
Zu A consolation of comfort a Collector's Edition appeared. The game is in a noble metal box. It contains a lot of material behind the scenes about the game. In addition, you will gain insights into the development work of the game, as well as the cooperation between the film team and actors.
The limited edition
The American version was also released as a limited edition, with a 007 t-shirt: James Bond 007 Quantum of Solice with Limited Edition 007 T-Shirt (PS3) (Advertising)
Conclusion
The game presents itself with some nice Bond moments. It's not just a game that is purely about shooting, but also requires a tactical approach. It is interesting to combine two Bond films into one game. The multiplayer mode has many variants. Unfortunately, the story has strong weaknesses, if it is there. Often the motives of the characters remain in the dark. The German voice output is poor. The technical implementation is fine. The game is entertaining for a short time, but doesn't add much replay value.
