Spanish Tessera Studios is deadly serious about the classic hide-and-seek game with Intruders. The VR game is a psychological thriller in which you, as 13-year-old Ben, have to escape from a house. Three people gain access to your house. Your parents are tied up and held hostage in the basement and Ben needs to get help and find medicine for his nurse to save everyone.
Ben and the Intruders from Intruders
Ben makes his way home with his parents and younger sister Iris. First of all, daily tasks, such as tablecloths, are waiting for you. The dialogues are not very outstanding. The father is doing research and the sister has health problems. First of all, you play hide and seek with a little sister. Need not be discovered need to find a key to get satisfied from a fictional space. Cabinets or furniture, for example, are suitable as hiding places. in doing so, you avoid the searching eyes. The whole thing is played from the first person perspective. You move around the house in a crouched position.
Hiding in Intruders
Unfortunately, playing hide and seek isn't quite as exciting as it sounds. Above all, you are going through rooms that the system automatically marks on the map. Again and again you will be sent from A to B. Occasionally there are moments full of tension, but you can recognize the position of the opponent relatively quickly through the cones of light and the chatter. If you get caught, you will usually not come to the pursuers anyway. Even crawling into some hiding places doesn't help. In certain areas such as ventilation shafts or the father's laboratory, opponents usually do not appear. The mini-game in which one thinks the pulse appears relatively seldom. Unfortunately, you can't distract intruders either. VR is not absolutely necessary for the game.
Conclusion on Intruders
Intruders: Hide and Seek is an interesting game of hide-and-seek, but it doesn't explore its possibilities. Often there is far too much sense of security in the game. you will get caught, which is also no longer satisfied, because you will not escape anyway. You won't be able to crawl into the hiding place in time either. The persecutors cannot be shaken off. The individual rooms and the next destinations are simply marked on the map. After two to two and a half hours, the game is already through. The dialogues leave a lot to be desired and the synchronization has room for improvement. You could have added a portion to the graphics. There is an alternative ending and the concept itself is very successful, but the overall implementation could have been better.
The game comes from Tessera Studios. Publishing was taken over by Daedalic.
