The endless expanses of space beckon at Galactic Civilizations. You take control of a race that competes with four other alien races that are fighting for supremacy in the galaxy. However, you are only allowed to survive the humans. With the extraterrestrial races you can establish and influence diplomatic relations, connect with them, conclude peace, trade or alliance agreements or throw yourself into war.
You can also target cultural influence alongside and on top of scientific predominance. Galactic Civilizations brings a high long-term motivation and contradictions by its nature. You decide, for example, whether you exhaust the production capacities of your planet or keep an eye on research, social planet management and the military. If you just increase the research, your other points decrease. With the funding of research you build more modern production facilities and thus faster and larger ships. You then build on ecological progress, promote industry and do terraforming. Buildings erected in a colony that optimize your production or the economy of the planet. With other buildings you produce military units or tips for cultural influence.
Galactic Civilizations has structured and clear menus that present information about planets, research and ships. What menus to control diplomacy, espionage, research and military. The main interface is also clearly laid out. The graphics could have been nicer, however. Unfortunately, do not have your own ships tinkered with, but choose from a few models and know that they are up to modern standards with the appropriate weapon technology.
Depending on how you behave, the AI in the game reacts. In diplomacy, you are given a variety of possible responses to influence relationships with other races.
Conclusion
the graphics at Galactic Civilizations could have been nicer. However, the game offers the plus points in terms of functionality. If you are interested in space games and also enjoyed the civilizations games, we recommend Galactic Civilizations by the developer Stardock.
