The Story of Duke Grabowski
Duke is very strong physically, but nothing more. The crew doesn't think much of his desire to become a captain. The result is a beating received by those who make fun of him. The cunning Slewface has particularly promising ambitions for the post of captain. Thus, Duke is assigned the task of getting on well with the ladies. Tonight he is supposed to be educated for himself in town. Unfortunately, eloquence is Duke's strength. various tasks are waiting for him to face the challenge.
The game world and the little riddles
Duke Grabowski's game world is relatively small, which is why the game only lasts around two and a half hours. The puzzles are also relatively simple. Nine different locations need to be examined. One after the other, they must be explored and played freely. In order to solve some puzzles, it is necessary to switch back and forth between the individual locations. Some puzzles have very entertaining approaches, but fail to keep up with the Monkey Island games or the Indiana Jones adventures. In any case, the dialogues are very successful. They invite you to smile.
Monkey island look
Visually, the characters are reminiscent of Monkey Island. This also applies to some locations. The game world looks colorful, weird and a little crazy. Overall, everything looks a bit angular with fuzzy textures. But that turns into a bit of a retro feeling, the “Guybrush Threepwood” times. So the game has a certain charm. The successful theme music provides the right Caribbean flair.
Point & Click sends its regards
No tutorial is required for the game. If you click on people or objects, a menu for interaction opens. Mouth, eyes or hands are available here. There is also a little text. You don't tend to get lost. The scene changes can also be accelerated if necessary.
Conclusion
Duke entertaining and reminiscent of retro technology, graphics, atmosphere and music like Monkey Island. Unfortunately the game ends way too early. This makes the story a little short. Although the game offers a lot of fun, it doesn't come close to Monkey Island. Duke seems a bit awkward and naive, making him a very personable protagonist. The world is wonderfully weird, which in total means that there is definitely a game recommendation for Duke Grabowski.
The main developer of the game is Venture Moon Industries. Alliance Digital Media is the publisher. Gene Mocsy from Irresponsible games participated in the development.
