Drosoft was a Spanish computer and video game software distributor based in Madrid. The company was founded in 1985 by DRO Records, Spain's first independent record label. Part of the golden age of Spanish software, the distributor was one of the "major distributors" of its era.
The ZX Spectrum games
The publisher was associated with the release of a number of ZX Spectrum games, some of which were marketed specifically for their Spanish translations. The company focused on translations of British games into Spanish. The quality of the translations justified the higher prices compared to the rest of the software they sometimes marketed.
Igor at DROsoft
The publisher released the first graphic adventure game developed in Spain, Igor: Lens Uikokahonia, developed by Pendulo Studios. In 1988 they agreed to collaborate with Dinamic Software for the distribution of games both in Spain and internationally.
To Electronic Arts
Electronic Arts acquired the company on November 14, 1994, to enable direct distribution of Electronic Arts software in the Spanish region. Later, one of its founding directors, Miguel Angel Gomez, became CEO of EMI Spain. Another founding member, Jesús Alonso Gallo, also sold another business, Restaurants.com, to the Michelin Group.
E-Books
In September 1995, they distributed the first e-books for children. Broderbund produced them. Their last published game was the Spanish version of Discworld in 1995.
The company was also based in Madrid, Spain. After the acquisition, it was a subsidiary of Electronic Arts.
