At Barcode World for the NES you compete with characters against your friends. The combat values are defined by scanned barcodes. Barcode World was released exclusively in Japan on December 18, 1992 for the Nintendo Family Computer.

The Famicom Barcode Butler
The title suggests that it's a video game in which players use a Barcode Battler II (a card-scanning handheld) that is packaged with the game and not separately, along with a Nintendo-licensed Famicom Barcode Battler interface was sold. A special set of Barcode Batchler cards with barcodes embossed on them was also required to play the game including the "White Card" including the "White Card". They eventually allowed players to scan a barcode.

However, the game requires barcode cards that contained characters from many Sunsoft series, most notably Hebereke and Gimmick! For a period of time, barcode swiping games were sometimes released in Japan. The game still works exactly as it did back then, and modern products can also be scanned to create new content for the game.
A connection cable for Barcode World
The use of the Barcode Battler unit in conjunction with the Famicom was made possible with the Famicom Barcode Battler Interface - a connecting cable supplied with the Barcode World Cassette. This gave the Famicom the ability to scan external barcodes to expand gameplay for the game to include all types of household consumer products. It soon began releasing side-by-side books detailing which consumer products had the strongest barcodes.
Barcode World – A Forerunner
Today the setup was seen as a precursor to the Nintendo e-reader 2001 for the 2001 advance. The two devices are very similar. They serve the same purpose: to scan specially designed cards with barcodes with barcodes printed on them. The game can only be played as an emulated version. Modern emulators like FCEUX feature specifically support the unusual setup too. Barcode World was released in 1991. It was developed by Epoch.
