Astro Robo Sasa is an interesting shooter variant for NES. With the help of weapon recoil you go on a mission.
Astro Robo Sasa
The platform or shooter game comes from Ascii and was originally released in 1983 for the MSX. In the Diani Galaxi, 2 fearless robots go on a training mission to explore the mysterious black hole M 808. Before they can fly into space, however, they must go through training that will guide them through green fields, warehouses or deadly underwater areas.
Sasa and Nana
The protagonists are Sasa and Nana, who are equipped with a heavy armored suit and a large weapon and have to explore up to 16 locations. In doing so, you collect all the energy sources that you can carry. Some capsules are held in the air by balloons, while others are carried around by robots or hidden behind heavy walls, both of which must be destroyed.
Weapons as a propulsion system
Despite the armament, both robots have no drive system. So to move forward you will need to use the recoil of your weapons to move across the screen and defy gravity. The weapons themselves also consume energy, and the object of the game is to walk the fine line between collecting energy and losing it. The game even offers the possibility to play cooperatively with another player.
Conclusion
The game Astro Robo Sasa would have had so much potential. The concept of guns, limited ammunition and energy is interesting, but game is missing a great fun factor. In this sense, the game only gets a conditional game recommendation. If you want to take a look at the concept, you are welcome to take a look, but unfortunately it is really worth it. Even if it was ported from the MSX to the NES, it would be better to find another game instead, in which the time can be better invested.
