Aedis Eclipse is the sequel to Generation on Chaos. It takes a lot of patience as it is a tactical game.
Aedis Eclipse - Generation of Chaos
The game is a turn-based strategy game with role-playing elements. There is not just one, but 3 stories that follow the game, which take place on 3 levels. The 1st is the Greckland plain, the lower world. Aedis is the world on the surface and Galadia is the heavenly world. You can choose yourself in which world the game starts. Newbies start in the lower world, as it offers a tutorial year and introduces the complex game mechanics. The problem is that it looks a bit bulky. Usually you will find the typical RPG elements in the stories, which are made up of kingdoms that are at war, cheeky, youthful heroes who save the world and technology that competes against magic. The story structure is different than in the first part. Otherwise the games are the same.
Gameplay
The gameplay takes place on a segmentation map, which are overlooked with various fortifications and where you can also find the monsters. The goal is to defeat the opposing headquarters and defend your own at the same time. For each mission, choose the commanders you want to bring into play. Then you and your AI opponent start the fight. The playing field must be conquered in turn-based tactical combat. In doing so, you often have to consider far too many different factors and skills. Some squares on the grid are associated with certain elements that limit which commander can cross them and who accordingly influences the battles on them. Other difficulties arise from the height of the terrain, the cooperation of commanders to increase their effectiveness and the construction of various structures.
Menus and Statistics
At best, the game offers the same dynamics that other games of this type bring with them. The map must be conquered piece by piece and the invasion of the enemy headquarters is one of the worthwhile goals, since the largest maps alone can take several hours. It will help you take prisoners and see the benefits of each building. In Aedis Eclipse, just like in Generation auf Chaos, the various menus are very complex, filled with small texts and statistics. Sometimes they are so overloaded that you cannot easily see which information is really helpful for you. The underworld tutorial gives you more introduction than the original game, but it's too incomplete to be really helpful. The only way to get to know the strategic strengths of different structures or to use the statistics is through experience. It takes a few hours to get used to it and figure out where the various commands are hidden. Spends a lot of time browsing the menus, which further slows the game down.
The fights
The combat sections differ from the slower turn-based sections in that when the commander enters combat, you move on a smaller map. There you will see the commander with a smaller army of units taking over the enemy force in real time. These battles look quite interesting at first, and the commanders use a range of impressive-looking special abilities as long as the display is charged for them. It is possible to set a pre-combat formation, but once the battle begins you have little opportunity to give orders. It is difficult to control the course of the battle. For example, you have the option to give an attack order, but you cannot choose which units should be attacked. The resulting battle is a bit more chaotic as the units are often right in front of each other but not attacking or marching in the wrong direction. In addition, there is a rather rigid unit animation that does not make the whole thing seem really dynamic. The game doesn't seem fully developed in this regard.
Conclusion
The special abilities in the game look impressive, the real-time battles are boring and disorganized and high game speed is drawn out and slowed down by many aspects. The simple task of completing a round can sometimes take a long time. This game is definitely something for strategy fans, who have to be prepared for a lengthy familiarization and lengthy battles.
