2020 baseball takes us to the future of 2020. It should be said that the game was released in 1991.
2020 super baseball
2020 Super Baseball first came out for the Neo Geo. In North America it appeared for the Sega Genesis and was published there by Electronic Arts. In 1993 the Mega Drive was added.
Upgrades
The game follows the basic rules of baseball, with various upgrades. The most noticeable thing about the game is that all of the characters are just robots. The human players are armed with powerful armor, computer sensors and jetpacks to improve offensive and defensive skills.
Baseball redesigned
Apart from the futuristic characters, the field has been redesigned for the future. There is only one stadium in this game, the Cyber Egg Stadium. A ball that is hit over the fence is no longer a novel. The exception is when he is hit directly over the fence in midfield. The other areas of the stands are covered with protective glass that allows the ball to ricochet so that it bounces back into play and back onto the field. A ball that hits this zone will keep coming back, giving the racket enough time to create a base or two. Slower runners sometimes fail to make 2nd base at all, even if the ball is hit over the outer fence.
A few changes
The home run zone has been reduced so that the clubs are more powerful and have the ability to hit the ball extremely far. Only the most powerful rackets have the accuracy and strength to hit the ball far enough for it to become a home run. The foul zone has also been reduced. It is now shorter and only includes the area directly behind the 1st base to the 3rd base. Weaker clubs can often score a hit if they hit the ball early or late, resulting in their making it into the fair zone, the common foul zone in normal baseball.
Summary
Super baseball 2020 isn't bad at all for its age. It knows how to captivate and EA has already shown what sport can be on the console at this time. The graphics are very well designed for this age and the game definitely invites baseball fans who want to take a look at the retro history of console sports. The game is definitely worth a recommendation.
